Towards a(n) Utopia-Individual Freedom
Towards a(n) Utopia-Individual Freedom
Freedom is the capacity for self-determination, it is a condition, and conditions can change. It can grow and expand but it also can shrink and disappear. Individual freedom is defined as god-given right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
You can never appreciate more individual freedom and the need of art for your mental wellbeing, then when you are isolated. This painting attempts to highlight the unknown of an exciting but uncertain future, as well as the meaning of social distance vs. personal freedom.
There is a freedom of and freedom from. The unique building into the painting is located in Tirana and it is a symbol of isolation and freedom because of his architect Maks Velo, who recently passed away, and was arrested in 1978. Due to communism regime his freedom was denied, and he was told that his art was anti-Socialist, but that didn’t stop him from painting, drawing and writing.
Humankind is facing unprecedented revolutions, all of our old stories are crumbling, and no new story has so far emerged to replace them. How can we prepare ourselves for a world of such unprecedented transformations and radical uncertainties?
